Some splitting help please! Stoke to Blackpool

Hi, I want to go from Stoke-on-Trent to Blackpool this weekend, leaving on Saturday morning and returning on the last train on Sunday. I have a disabled rail card. A return ticket is about £24 which seems a bit steep. Is it worth splitting anywhere for this journey? I am tied to coming back from Blackpool North on the Sunday because it has the later trains. Any help would be gratefully received.

Splitting at Manchester Piccadilly might help:

Stoke on Trent/ Manchester Piccadilly Anytime return: £11.00 (Virgin Trains only), £14.00 otherwise.

Manchester Piccadilly/Blackpool North Off-peak return 25% off*: £15.60

Total: £26.60/£29.60 before railcard discount.

I don't know what the "25% off" tag is about, that's just how it was described. I would assume that you would still get a railcard discount on top.

splitting at Warrington is also £29.60 (without the discount).

This would also give you a free first class upgrade on Virgin between Crewe and Preston. (Although the same could apply between Stoke and Manchester)

It's just a bug on the Southern site, it's supposed to be for their sale fares.

On weekends and Bank Holidays, upgrades to First Class on Virgin Trains is free of charge if holding a Standard Class Anytime ticket by approaching the Train Manager.
