Solent Go is another new smartcard scheme.

Buses and ferries only at the moment, but availability on rail is promised for the future.

Q. Can I add a rail ticket?
A. Not at the moment. We are working to try and offer a local rail add-on ticket in the near future.

I popped over to the Isle of Wight yesterday as I was at a loose end and had never been. I was surprised to see that smart card readers had been installed at all of the stations of the island!

Shame about the picture on the website, Velvet Buses are already out of business!

I thought that at first glance too, but there are now reports they've just been reborn under a new owner, as of last Friday's Echo story:

A NEW buyer has taken over a Hampshire bus company two weeks after it went bust.

Velvet - which traded as Black Velvet Travel Ltd - went into administration on July 16 after financial pressures and increased competition meant it was unable to survive.

But today administrators announced new owner Adam Smith has secured a dealt to rescue the company and promised it will keep its name.

It will continue to run the will continue to operate routes A, S1, S2, B4, M and 503.

This is probably the Stagecoach Smart card that South West Trains are rolling out.

SWT installed smart card readers at every one of their stations including Island Line a few years ago. It is getting them working as a publicly available scheme outside the trial areas that is being dragged out a bit...

Had a look at a few of the websites of the participating operators. Haven't found anything about the ticket on their websites so far.
