Software/Electronics Jobs in Rail?

Hi all,

I'm looking for a bit of a change of career and wondering what there is for me in the rail sector.

My experience to date is in low-level embedded software and electronic engineering (i.e. PCB design, not electrical, especially not high-voltage stuff). I'm also a reasonable Python developer, but with no particular specialisms there.

I'm aware of Alstom in Derby/Mansfield - having looked around there doesn't seem to be much else.

If anyone can offer advice or suggestions, I'd appreciate it, even if it's to not bother!

I'd be interested to see how this thread goes too. I was in a similar boat to you about a year ago, but I suspect we had different endgame ideas. I came from 10+ years in software engineering (specifically platform/devops, cloud, etc) and I got a position as a trainee train driver. If a software opportunity in rail comes up naturally as I rack up the years and it makes sense, I might entertain it but for now I'm right where I want to be.

You could look at the signalling suppliers such as Siemens and Alstom, also whoever supplies passenger information systems. Lists of companies at the links below (quotes not relevant).
