Soft Focus on an adapted Legacy Prime Lines

Hi all!

I bought a legacy Prime Lens (a Canon FD with f/1.8) a year or so ago, and obviously had to get an adapter for it (as it didn't fit my EOS 1200D). It gets the lighting right, but I always seem to get a softer focus on it than I would like, even on f/1.8! Does anyone know what I should do?
