A week or 2 ago I saw a nice shot on Flickr of an HST with a plaque on the front saying 'The Last HST', I've heard much talk about the last HST running to Swansea early Dec, about Landore closing early Dec.

So how come I'm still seeing HST's running? To / From Swansea, and Landore is packed with them at night as usual?

Are you sure it wasn't 'the last HST at Landore depot' or 'the last HST at Old Oak Common depot'? Both depots closed recently but HSTs are still in regular, albeit reducing, use.

I was of the understanding that this "Last HST" was just the last to be allocated to Landore (as they're switching over to IEPs at Maliphant), but HSTs from other depots continued to operate services to/from Swansea. I'm not in Swansea often these days, so can't comment on HSTs parked up there overnight.

Well if that is the case it only accounts for one-third of my query.

if you mean the GWR one it was the last HST prepared by Old Oak Common depot not the last HST.

Ok, that may explain that part. The discussions about last HST's running on the Swansea - Paddington line were on Flickr perhaps I should take those with a pinch of salt.

Of course there's always the chance of an over-run, saying they'd stop using the stock but it ends up in use longer than planned.. a bit like Pasers.

Landore might be being used to store HSTs.

The only HST into Swansea is the 0745 PAD - SWA, which forms the 1129 SWA - PAD
All other services are 800s

They are storing HST coaches at Landore not sure about power cars.

Old Oak and Landore are closed. I.e. not active hst depots anymore.

I think he means last HST out of Old Oak Common with 43185.

It's not. Full rakes of a vehicles have gone off lease and are in store at various locations.
No power cars - other than the ScotRail ones - have gone off lease yet.

Vehicles stored at Landore and Penzance are not off-lease, but are stood down by GWR. There are moves in this week that are taking three sets of trailers to Ely, which are off lease.

The complete sets at Landore are expected to be rotated into and out of store - indeed one set came out yesterday to move to Laira and went straight into traffic to start 1A87 from Exeter.

Thanks for the correction- more accurate than my initial attempt.

Indeed was impressed with the use of one of the sets to restart 1A87.

Seemed to be another move today to Ely - 2 47s went through Bristol about midday on what I am guessing was 10 or so Mark 3s (could make out the silhouette of the 47s, not so much the coaches!)

Yes - that's one of the moves I referred to, and your guess was good - it is 10 Mark 3s. There was also one on Monday and should be another on Friday on behalf of Angel to move off lease HST stock.

Blimey, right number of vehicles as well! Only caught a glimpse, but may as well do the lottery numbers tonight on that basis! :P

Yes but you where asking about Landore, Ely has loads of rakes, but no buffets as I could tell.

Landore has or had a full rake of Mark 3s that made up a complete set. Hence how to restart 1A87 the other day a complete set came from Landore.

My reading of your post was that you were under the impression it was just buffets at Landore - it's not a, it's a complete set.

When the set was used on 1A87, was it cleaned at all?
I'm on a HST atm and it has a mouldy interior!

Well didn't 43180+43093 take 8 buffets to Landore from Laira on 17th October.
And didn't 43131+43147 take 8 TSB's from Laira to Landore on Thursday 25th October.

They may have done - but there was also a move to Landore at the start of this week or even last week of a complete set. Hence how it was able to come out complete to work a service on Tuesday.

Cactustwirly - not sure I'm afraid!

Yes, but two complete sets have gone up there over the last 10 days or so to be stood down, and one has come back out again. I expect there will be more of this over the coming weeks as mileages are managed and sets kept operational for handback to the owners at lease ends.
