I've had to drive up the bank a few times today - and on one occassion (after another snowfall this afternoon), had to fall back and try again!

There's nothing in Swansea or Llanelli, but Carmarthen and the inland hills got a fair bit apparently!

As i was driving it seemed to just stop and then reappeared, my friend is a bus driver up in swansea, and said its completely clear there hence why i decided to go ahead with my trip, and i couldnt believe it seeing how it was in cardiff, after he said swansea was clear, but working from the fall in cornwall im thinking it must of just been a slim strip of snow going south, as Cardiff got hit mid afternoon friday and only the west of cornwall got hit at 1am on saturday morning! East of bodmin, right until i got to around Newport was clear, then i hit the snow on the roads again

I travelled back north from Barrow Hill late Friday night (where it was fine at the time) and suddenly went from a clear road on the M18 to a blizzard. The further north I got the worse it was, and resulted in my car having an altercation with a kerb as I attempted a right turn at a roundabout, damaging a wheel. Since having it repaired this afternoon, another 3 or 4 inches have come down.

Its not just motorists and commercial drivers who suffer, have you tried cycling on those roads? Its almost impossible!

Oddly enough a gritter did come down the road today, didn't make much difference, but they never usually come down past my house.
The bus routes and main roads have been gritted AFAIK.

Fun? Well if that's what you call it, then maybe!
But I can't seem to get anywhere fast. There's no WSP on my bike! Pedalling hard up-hill just makes those tyres spin faster in the snow.

Anyway, I've travelled nearly 2000 miles with my bike this week, and haven't fallen off once, so can't complain. (its been in the DVT/bike rack for 99% of that distance)

14 inches in Aviemore yesterday

Great, going skiing there next weekend (well I'm not, but the people I'm going with are, I'm after Golden Eagles and Ptarmigans).

Had a light dusting here in Birmingham yesterday, most of which has now melted in my area: A fairy pathetic display having had a look at some photos my brother took of the current situation in Sunderland, which appears to be pretty spectacular: There's even up to an inch of snow on the sand on Seaburn beach! hock:

Speaking of skiing, I've seen people happily poling their way through the snow on Aberdeen beach.

Light dusting yestreday in North Herts, might get some more tonight.

Wensleydale railway had to run an emergency timetable because 47715 was frozen solid (minus 9 at Leeming Bar last night). They couldnt unfreeze the brakes on 20020 (plenty of fireworks from the exhaust when they started it up), and it took about 2 hours for 03144 to thaw before they could release the brakes.

Even worse at North Yorkshire Moors with Grosmont inaccessible by road.

And it was snowing again in Northallerton by mid afternoon

Given that they are only found at higher altitudes then it's no surprise that they've managed to keep themselves largely to themselves: Part of the grouse family and in the summer you can usually hear them, even if you can't see them, if you happen to be up on the moors. In the winter, as 142094 says, they can be rather difficult to spot against the snow!

It is worse the further east you go.

We've had about 6" in total over the last two or three nights, and it has been very, very cold at times - especially in the wind. Further east, a work colleague was snowed in by about 12", and on top of another steep hill.

Road outside our place was passable with care, if in a 4x4, by mid-morning, but the hill opposite was not "cleared" until early afternoon. If it refreezes by the morning could be "interesting"

Currently, the bird feeders, and water dishes are being topped up. Hope you all are doing the same, small songbirds need all the food they can get when it is like this....

In Manchester there are cars driving over from Yorkshire covered in snow. We've had nothing in the way of major snowfall, only a few scattered snowflakes.

A lot of Lothian's routes have been diverted or are terminating early. The footpaths in town are just covered in slush, parts of princes street has 2" of it. I got wet feet walking to the station.

My train was 8 minutes late out of Edinburgh because we had to wait for the guard, then got caught in various delays, so were 15 minutes down by Larbert, and about 30 mins late into Stirling where the train was terminated, having been stuck outside for about 15 minutes or so. ScotRail had done well though, with a bus to Bridge of Allan and Dunblane already organised.


Passed a Ford Ka in Stirling with almost 2' of snow on the roof...

3. A junction just by Goldenacre that has turned into an ice rink.

5. Princes Street. Once again, not gritted.

Here in Sheerness we woke up to a light dusting, then a couple of hours ago it was snowing, now turned mainly to rain. We're due a load overnight and through tomorrow, will post pics if it lays enough!

You were right about Princes St , bloody slushy . Depth of Snow was greater East of Shotts.

It's about 6 inches here, which is a lot for Glasgow (although not unbearable I hasten to add). The forecasts seem to have no idea if there's going to be any more snow though, so I don't have any idea what's going to happen.

My missus tells me that it's pretty darn treacherous driving in Buxton this morning. I'm amazed that the snow took so long to hit the Peak District, the area is usually first in line for adverse weather, I mean, I managed to find patches of snow in the hills round there in APRIL!

There's been a light dusting in Cardiff overnight, with complete snow cover to be seen from Cardiff to Dovey Jn. Snow looked to be at its deepest at Ludlow and Newtown, 3~4 inches on uncleared platforms.
