I came out of my building first thing on Monday and walked a bit along and noticed there was a perfect rectangular area with no snow which was surrounded by a complete covering. It took me a while to work out what it was, but there is an office underground there, and I can only assume that the snow that was there either didn't settle or it melted - presumably because of the heat from the room below. It looked most odd though.

Ive seen that very thing but I had two rectangular shapes with snow between them covering the distance of one rectangle I stood there quite a while figureing it out.

It always seems to snow, with the snow lying, on just one day here each year (for the past few years anyway)

It always seems to be on a thursday :???:

Try the last week in January, I have had several riots over the years with snow in that particular week; but please not this year as we are flying to Portugal.

Got stuffed a few years back doing exactly the same thing, it was a real catalogue of one thing leading to another - starting with our original flight being cancelled and having to book a later one - then getting to the airport to find that this flight was delayed then, whilst we were waiting, watching heavy snow bring the airport to a stand in a very short period of time. Luckily, we managed to get out the following morning so did not miss too much holiday - but the delay cost us getting 1423 for haulage, blasted loco is now in Argentina :-x

So when does the weather start to warm up, or the number of warmer days start to out number colder days?

Cos I'm planning to come over in late Feb, but if its going to be way too cold then I might hold off for a while.

Your guess is as good as ours
lol so its like that huh? well its summer here but at the moment you'd never guess it, damn typical Melbourne weather.

If I come in late Feb i'm expecting it to be freezing then, what are day light hours like towards the end of Feb? And you get sunny days or just always really dark clouds rain and very cold?

The sun is rising at about half 8 here (Shrewsbury) and going down at about half 4. So end of Feb you should be ok. As for nice weather, wanna place any bets? ;):p

Well thats not too bad, sounds like June/July here, although at the moment sun rises at 06.30 and goes down at about 21.00 so I guess thats ok then.

A bet eh? well I bet a stack of 100 metcards :D that by the end of February I'd say the weather would be at about 11'C or 12'C thats just a guess. ;)

Had a bit of sleety/rainy stuff at about 1130 this morning. Other than that, normal depressing weather :(

Just started in the City Centre. My flatmate just ran in and yelled "SNOW!!!!!!".

Looks like it'll be here for a while, but won't lie.

My hypothesis was wrong; it has stopped and is lying quite nicely on the streets up here.

Had a 15 min hailstorm at 1600 today, lay to about 0.25"
Very surprising, given, as I said before, that it's been raining here today!

Was almost blizzard like conditions for a while

I recall the summer of 2003 and the ESRs of 60-70mph across almost the entire network for days on end.:D
