So we've had threads about a few sports but does anyone else watch the snooker? The World Cup of snooker is getting played currently in Thailand where 2 player teams play 5 frames. Four of the frames are singles matches but the third frame of the five is alterante shot doubles and this has been quite an interesting format.

I'm a great snooker fan, however I only watch certain championships, i.e. championships on the BBC.

Same here. The Grand Prix, The World Championships, The UK Open and The Masters is all I ever watch of it!

No Grand Prix (or World Open as it is now known) for you this year then. The BBC have dropped it.

Is that the one Mr Hearn rebranded and they now have strictly best of 5s? I was beginning to go off that due to the fact that you could never really settle into a match. As soon as you did, it was over!

Correct. Also the UK Championship is to be reduced to best of 11 frames up to and including the quarter-finals from this year.

I'm ashamed to admit that in my younger days, I lied about being a 'Tory supporter' to become a member of a Conservative-club, JUST TO PLAY ON THEIR FANTASTIC SNOOKER TABLES. This will haunt me until the end of my days !

Like XCDriver, I prefer playing to watching !

Any 'Pot Black' fans will love this interpretation of Winifred Attwells arrangement of Black and White Rag : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJx1jry3Ev8&NR=1

Indeed a drastic step to take. I find snooker very relaxing to watch, and, as with football, I have zero skills at playing it. Of course, it doesn't help that I am colourblind and can't tell the difference between the red and the brown balls...

I am doing reports where I can on Le Tour de France and keeping progress up to date on the Women's World Cup (plus transfer info), so I will pass up on this sport thread and leave it to the experts.

Though i'm not an expert, I'd be happy to contribute information on this thread.

I'm not fan of snooker, but the doubles format sound sinteresting. Do the 'snooker purists' like it, or do they think it's just tinkering with the sport to make it more appealing to non fans?

I do normally watch it, and have been trying to get tickets for the games in York at the end of the year. Tried to get tickets for the finals at the Crucible but sold out before I had the chance.

While Sky revolutionised most sports it just didnt happen for snooker, I play occasionally these days but it's been many a year since I watched it seriously on TV
