With the Euro 3000, RENFE class 334, they are all in strict sequence but the Euro 4000, RENFE class 335 they are all over the place, with pockets of sequentially numbered locos for private operators like Takargo in between. Although the 335s for Angel Trains were built and numbered in one batch many were sidelined around the works for months or even years, some having only recently come into service with works numbers matching dates into service. Having lived in Spain for many years I am not surprised that there is apparently no control of or even recording of the issuing of such numbers. The same applies to rebuilds where renumbering takes place such as on the 269 class and 319/333 conversions.
Two of the most recent completions at Vossloh are DRS 68002 Intrepid which has works number 2680/2013 and Israeli 1316 with works number 2656/2014 while some Euro 4000 locomotives released last year have been reported as having works numbers in the 27xx series. Perhaps some numbers are allocated when an order is received. Time may tell!
