Smethwick Rolfe Street station Heritage Open Day

This Saturday (15th) between 10am and 4pm. Great chance to explore the history of this late Victorian station, and to walk to admire Telford's Galton Bridge and Engine Arm Aqueduct along with a visit to the nearby Galton Valley Pumping Station.

Excellent area for industrial heritage, with the new (deep cut) and old (locks up/down) canals running side by side plus the railway (and Galton Bridge of course).

When I first explored this area I didn't have a proper map so it was quite a (pleasant) surprise to be walking along a canal, think "I wonder what's up those steps?" and find out it was another, paralell canal on a different level.

An additional opportunity to visit the Exhibition Room at Smethwick Rolfe Street station as it will be open today (21st September) between 10am and 3pm. The Galton Valley Pumping Station will be open too - it is a 5 minute walk from the station.
