Smallest town with three stations

No such station now or at any time in the past (or West Marske come to that) as far as I can tell.

Maybe when Longbeck was opened in the 1980's there was talk of calling it 'West Marske' but they settled on Longbeck?

Sticking to National Rail and the town being in the name of the station I think Ardrossan has it closely followed by Dorking

Pontefract and Barry were my first thoughts but turns out they're bigger than I thought

Heathrow Airport isn't a town/village. All of the airport stations are part of the London Borough of Hillingdon (population 274,000).

Has managed to retain its BR3 postcode (Bromley) - not an SE or SW postcode and the postal district refers to it as being in Kent

BR3 is in London. Postcode does not dictate what administrative area a location is in. Beckenham has been in London since 1965. Before then it was in Kent. If it wasn't in London, it wouldn't have red buses, its local authority wouldn't be the london Borough of Bromley, residents wouldn't be able to vote for the Mayor of London, and it wouldn't be within the London Travelcard area

Speaking as a former Carnoustie resident, Barry isn’t really part of the town but a seperate village in its own right. In any case the station is a long way from the village.

I used to live in Thames Ditton, and that had red buses, and was within Travelcard Zone 6.

Same with Epsom Downs. Dorking has red buses funded by Surrey County Council. But they cannot vote for the Mayor of London, though. Beckenham is definitely in London (not Kent)

Staying OT: Beckenham had red buses long before it became part of Borough 19 aka Bromley. And IIRC Beckenham Hill wasn't in the Borough of Beckenham.
But a local authority boundary isn't (at least in the UK) the same as a town boundary, otherwise there would be some local authoriy in the Highlands of Scotland with 3 or more stations and not much bigger than Tyndrum.

Beckenham Hill station is located within the LB Lewisham boundary.

You can, but Greenock also has nine stations and it's population (45k) is about a third the size of Exeter.

If you class Aughton as part of Ormskirk, something which is mildly controversial among local residents (but is a matter of fact in post town terms), that has three; Ormskirk, Aughton Park and Town Green.

And Barry Links is a very long way from Barry Docks, Barry Town and Barry Island!

How about Beckenham? Beckenham, New Beckenham (unsure if that is a separate town), and Beckenham Junction.

Also Bromley with Bromley South, Bromley North, and Sunridge Park.

And Beckenham Hill, (in Lew****ham though) Kent House, & Clock House . Birkbeck, Beckenham Rd on tramlink too.
