Smallbrook Junction railway station

What happens if maintenance work needs to take place here?
I mean substantial work like re-erecting the platform for example. I ask because there's no access to the station by foot or by vehicle apart from train.

I'll probably get a really obvious answer like they'll just ask the people who own land next to it for access.

They will go through with out stopping, it's only open on steaming days, I'm sure a bus would be provided from Ryde to havenstreet.

NR keeps a few road-rail vehicles on the island for maintenance work so they would be used by workers to access Smallbrook Junction station.

There used to be an 03 shunter on the Island to haul engineers trains but that's now used as the depot shunter at Hornsey depot.

There is an NR acess road/point, it's by the first over bridge north of the station.

There's no public access, but there is a path along the cess from a nearby bridge. The movement of materials/plant/men to the station is the same as anywhere else along the line with no road access, by works train on the IoWSR or road/rail vehicles on Island Line.

No they use the ferry. Sorry my weird sense of humour just got the better of me.

Rode all the I.O.W lines last summer, Smallbrook Junction is a tad' basic' to say the least, great day out though, the Steam railway is something else though, the restoration of the stock is superb, the NR route too, is another 'time warp' well worth a trip for anyone

Maintenance on the Island is the responsibility of Island Line, who contract the work out to Colas Rail - i believe they have 5(?) people who work on the line.

I seem to recall two 03s being on the island, but numbered as class 97s.

Erm i could be wrong here but yes it is at Hornsey depot but i think they've broke it!

I don't remeber them being numbered 97's, when i seen them they were numbered 03's, 03079 (preserved at York i seem to recall reading) in BR blue and NSE liveried 03179!

That sounds more familiar, now you say it. I knew there where 7s and 9s in there somewhere!
