So does that mean you can go direct from Skipton to Sunderland then?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Got that wrong, Northern don't do Carlisle to Sunderland direct although I am sure they used to. A change at Hexham would be needed so my answer is as already mentioned above: 3

Skipton to Carlisle
Carlisle to Sunderland

The number of trains is right and you could get to Newcastle that way, but not on one ticket. The fewest trains is actually:

Skipton-Leeds
Leeds-Newcastle
(Newcastle-Sunderland is on the Tyne and Wear Metro)

The answer to the question about stations operated by GC is zero. The stations they stop at are operated by other TOCs or Network Rail. As for the other questions, not a clue.

You can do Skipton to Sunderland changing at London Kings Cross too, also two trains but definately not a permitted route, doubling back between Donny and London!

10. What is the least number of trains I could take to get from Skipton to Sunderland?
This isn't the place to go asking about workings and routes! That's what the Fares, Tickets & Routeing section is for!:razz:

But just to have a go at 10: I'd say the lowest number of trains I could take is zero because I either jump in my car to do the journey, or travel by bus insted!;)

If that was a permitted route, we'd all be chinging seven figure mileages each year! If only... <D

10. 2 Skipton - Carlisle, then Carlisle - Sunderland.

This is ok. Carlisle - Middlesbrough services go via Sunderland.

EDIT. No Carlisle - Sunderland through train you say? When did this end?
