Four adults hope to travel from Newark to Kings Cross on Sat 5th May as a small group. Two people hold Senior Rail Cards but the terms and conditions of small group tickets state that these types of tickets are not valid with any other offers or with Rail Card discounts. When going to the special page for booking these types of tickets an option is available for entering Rail Cards and indeed it quotes a lower price if you do so.This seems to contradict the terms and conditions. Can anyone explain as the group do not wish to board the train to find that their tickets are invalid.Thankyou.

There was a thread about this not too long ago, see if i can find it and link it. It is fine to book, although the people travelling on a railcard will not recieve any extra discount they do count towards the number of people travelling in a group to allow others in the group to recieve the discount. (I hope that makes sense).

not valid with any other offers or with Rail Card discounts.
Railcard holders travelling as part of an East Coast Small Group do not attract 1/3 off for the Railcard in addition to 1/3 off for the Small Group. But the fare paid by the Railcard holder is a little less than that paid by other adults.
Example

Three adults travel together on East Coast Advance tickets. One of them holds a Railcard.
The tickets' full price is £44.40 each.
The web only price is reduced to £39.50.
The Railcard holder receives 1/3 off the web only price and pays £26.10, whether or not they travel as part of a Small Group.
The two others receive 1/3 off the full price and pay £29.30 each as part of a Small Group.
An advantage of including Railcard holders in the Small Group is that they count towards the minimum Group size of 3.
