Or do we just accept that bullying is inevitable.
Death is inevitable, but it doesn't stop me trying to reduce the chances of dying through exercise, taking care when crossing the road, etc.

Bullying is inevitable; it occurs in schools, homes, workplaces, everywhere. You think that physical violence is the magic bullet to stopping it. From my perspective that's like trying to cheat death by taking your own life.

I was smacked by my parents and I was bullied at school.

As a result of both, I will never smack my children. Discipline can be brought in different ways.

For example, loss of privileges. Violence should never be the outcome.

Violence begets violence.

Clearly the lack of corporal punishment begets bullying..............although it you've got a better solution than I'm sure we'd all be interested in hearing it

Well that's the best argument yet for corporal punishment, don't the victims of bullying deserve protection?

Cut bullying out in schools and you'll cut it out, or at least seriously reduce it, in later life.

Having failed to produce any real evidence in favour of smacking, you are now trying to divert this thread on to the topic of bullying. As has been pointed out, this is a complex issue. However, one factor tends to stand out from innumerable studies: bullies themselves frequently come from violent homes where they are beaten ("smacked") as a means of "discipline".

So to look at it another way what is the less of two evils?

Bullies are given a dose of their own medicine, ie corporal punishment.

Or do we just accept that bullying is inevitable.

It's a no brainer to me.

Wow you really think there would be no bullying if there was corporal punishment

Bullying is an extremely complicated topic, but one thing that shines out through most studies is that the most vicious bullies tend to come from homes where they are routinely beaten as "discipline".

The effects of childhood parental abuse keeps my missus in a job.

No I'm diverting anything anywhere, corporal punishment was mainly used to deter bullying at my school or for other acts of extreme bad behavior. For the more minor misdemeanors there were other punishments such as detention.

Of course if you have an alternative solution to bullying....................

Complicated subject my eye...............it's quite simple, bullies pick on those weaker than themselves because they can. When they realise that somebody bigger than them will give them a dose of their own medicine the bullying generally stops.

But why do they do that? Everyone is stronger than some people and weaker than other people, but most people are not bullies.

When they realise that somebody bigger than them will give them a dose of their own medicine the bullying generally stops.

No it doesn't.

Complicated subject my eye...............

Just because you're not astute enough to see the complication doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Indeed most people are not bullies but a significant proportion have the potential to be.

What complication? This sounds like social worker speak trying to justify their own jobs.

OK. If you are correct (which I do not accept at all), please explain why bullies bully and others don't. ('Because they can' would not count as an explanation).

Just as we all thought. Evidence and reason can go out the window - what seems obvious to Antman is obviously the solution!

And you hate social workers too?

It's like hearing someone from the 1920s...
