Slough to Zone 1 - i think

Hi ,,

My wife recently got accepted to do her masters, for the first few months i would drive her to and fro from the station but as ive changed jobs i've lost the company car (frankly we cant afford another one)

We live in an area called manor park.

i was wondering if any of you experts can help us out in terms of train details and fares etc.

Her uni is in Old Street (right next to the station), she does the usual Mon-Fri.

What is the best and cheapest Train ticket\ Travelcard \ oyster that she can use?

Is there a bus that she can take that will take her to and from the station that is either inclusive or exclusive of the train ticket etc. (slough bus station, very close to train station)

i believe we pay about 265 a month on a monthly travel card, and a taxi to the station and back will be 12.00 per day (240 a month).
she only goes mon-fri

I am not sure what your wife's term times are, so I will assume monthly prices. I would advise that she buys for whole terms at a time though, it won't be more expensive and it could be cheaper.
A season Slough to Paddington would cost £198.20.
A Travelcard season for zones 1 and 2 would then cost £99.10, coming to a total of £297.30.

A Travelcard season from Slough to zones 1-6 would cost £261.20.

You could add Slough plus bus onto either of those for £48. I am afraid that I don't know anything about bus services in Slough.

Apparently the number 3 bus in Slough runs from St Elmo Crescent near where you say you live to the bus station, approximately every 30 minutes. I think it costs £59 a month, or £48 if you use PlusBus. (It may however be quicker to get off at the stop before the bus station and walk to the railway station in the morning as almost all London-bound trains in the peak leave from platforms 5 and 6 which would mean crossing all the way back over from the bus station.) Alternatively, get a bike and cycle - I'm fairly sure there's cycle parking at Slough station - it's only two miles and gives much more flexibility.

Trains from Slough to London are generally at least every 15 minutes, though in the rush hours there are very few fast trains. With a season ticket you just get on the next train to Paddington after you get to the station (unless a fast train is due soon).

I suggest you get a season ticket from Slough to London for £198.20 per month (probably best bought a term at a time as you can buy any period longer than a month) (this is as suggested by clagmonster).
Then simply use an Oyster Card in London: a journey Paddington to Old Street (or Moorgate and walk) is £1.60 at any time on Oyster, so just £16 a week: this reduces your flexibility (costs extra for any additional journeys) but saves money if your wife doesn't want to travel other than to and from university!
