Sleeper trains for Japan and UK?

In some threads there has been speculation about how long the GWR sleeper sets will last. And I'm struck that the only remaining regular sleeper sets in Japan (the 285 series EMU) are entering the final phase of their working life. Given that the loading gauge for JR and the UK is similar (albeit with different track gauges), would it make sense for a design to be developed that could be easily adapted for deployment on both systems?

Assuming the end of life for current stock in both countries doesn't result simply in stopping the services, given their unprofitability...

The Illinois Terminal Railroad built a series of these impressive sleeping coach interurbans, a sort of sleeper tram. Can I suggest the GWR acquires some of these as its next sleeping cars? (The GWR reply no doubt being- "A tramway? We're not the Southern")

JR's loading gauge is bigger than the UK, especially at platform level and below, their trains can have flat sides all the way to the rails. They are also taller and wider - that's we they can have double-deck carriages and we can't
