sleeper train

i quite like the idea of traveling to scotland on the sleeper train, to be able to sleep all the way through and then wake up and hey presto we've arived

i live in south wales though, so would it be just far too much hassle trying to get the sleeper train, seeing as i'd have to go to london to catch it...also does anyone know why there is not a sleeper train that caters for my side of the country, just something i was wandering.

You aren't far enough away from London. Fort William takes around 14 hours - now that's a proper sleeper journey.

You could always board the sleeper at Crewe if you wanted to catch the highland sleeper (Inverness, Aberdeen and Fort William).

As for a lack of sleepers in your area there did used to be South West to Scotland sleepers under BR but they were withdrawn in the early 90s(?) due to a lack of demand as more people were flying. To be honest in some ways its quite surprising that the two remaining sleeper services have survived as long as they have (and actually have quite good loadings on some services).
