sleeper berth

hi folks,hop somebody can help.travelling on the sleeper to and from inverness,just got our tickets,and were in coach m both ways,but in berths 12 and 13 going,and 7 and 8 on way back.
are these both sharing as me and wife obviously want to share.we requstes this.
any help would be great,my understanding is that they go up in twos!
last time i travelled on this train was back in the 80s!!

thats great thanks.i thought that 1+2 are one berth etc,we got 12 and 13 on way back,thought as they are 2 per berth,thought this would be split over 2 berths.

You have berth and cabin confused!

Each cabin consists of two berths. In First Class, the upper berth is folded away leaving only the lower berth.

Facing cabins can be connected together into one larger cabin by opening the inter-connecting door between the cabins (obviously this only applies if the cabins are facing each other).

Whoops, it does in fact look like 12/ 13 are in separate cabins looking at the plan. If you jump on early you could have a word with the steward and see if any of the people next to you are traveling alone and if they could swap one of you round.

Yes it looks like you are unless they changed the layout to include any accessible cabins since that plan was done. I was looking up 13 & 14 first time round for some reason

I would have thought that would only apply if all the occupants of both cabins were members of the same party?

Yes, maybe there was some confusion and they thought the OP had booked two singles or soemthing?

Hopefully they will be able to move one of the other people in to the other cabin, thus swapping one of you.

Sadly the railway companies (in general) do not have any interest in making things "easy" for passengers. It's not uncommon to be treated as a potential criminal, and the fare structure is incredibly complex yet they have the cheek to call it "simple". Anyone would think they are trying to put people off travelling... in fact, in some cases, there is evidence that they are doing just that. Even a Director of the Association of Train Operating Companies once suggested there is "no economic justification for [Off Peak] tickets" and that people should "buy CDs or go to the theatre" instead. In any other industry such comments would surely result in a resignation. But the rail industry is quite unique, and his job is as safe as can be. Utterly bizarre.

Anyway at least we are here to help and make sense of the ludicrous working practices of the railway and avoid people being utterly ripped off.

Am I the only one to notice that 12 and 13 are not only not in the same cabin, they are not in the same 'super cabin' either? If you open the inter-connecting doors, 12 will be with 9, 10 and 11, and 13 will be with 14, 15 and 16.

still no answer from scotrail,only that they have upgradede the complaint!!!and somebody will contact us within 2 hours,that was at 10.30 this morning!!!
dont mind about a super cabin or a normal cabin.just want to be in same cabin,that cant be to much to ask,can it...

At a guess you probably got the last two tickets available - that is why they are in diufferent cabins. I can not see any way yhat they will be able to change the bookings as all the odd people are paired by their sex so no one will be available to swap.
Probably all they will be able to do is move you to another service (day).

All I can say is get there early and ask the sleeper attendant if there is anything they can do.

This would not happen on FGW - they do not do shared berths (unless people are travelling together).

It's hard to believe that Scotrail are yet to join the 21st century (both in terms of policies and poor customer service), but sadly it's true.

You can try 'phoning again and demand - politely but assertively - to speak to a manager. I know someone who managed to get berths on the Oban sleeper train in 2006 when hardly anyone else did, by insisting on speaking to a manager. We then had front windows while some hardcore 37 'bashers' were denied access to the front windows by the sleeper attendants!
