Sleeper Availability Policy - Berth with Rover ticket

Hi,

I have a 1st All Lines Rover ticket and I want to book a 1st sleeper berth with Scotrail telesales. The info they gave me is that they don't have availability at my chosen date of 1st berth supplements but they do have the sleeper ticket (essentially I can have the 1st class berth if I buy a separate ticket). Is that now the berth booking system works when at low availability? Is it possible to book the berth another way?

When trying to book a supplement last year on the Fort William sleeper I encountered the same problem: no supplements available, but berths in general were. It caused quite a bit of confusion because not having originally been aware of this policy, I had phoned them up to ask if they had berths available on my chosen date and they said yes without clarifying further, so I had a bit of nasty surprise when trying to then book the supplements at Euston.

However, in answer to your question, the clerk there did eventually manage to override the system somehow and book us on with supplements, but I don't know how he did it!

Would it work best if you call again and just talk about a FOR and not mention ALR?

I have seen it done by putting a ticket in the basket then adding berth supplement then deleting the ticket. Another option is FGW telesales who are good at doing this on Cornish sleeper !

I wonder if this is a new dilution of the Ranger value. Not unreasonable for FSR to want to keep more revenue in the high season but this has not happened to me before. In the end recognising that holiday time is valuable I was forced to stump up for a new ticket

I had a good look at the ticket options at my local station. The berth supplement were not available for selection. I think those that have ALREADY tours
planned would be best advised that their ticket is now similar to an advance ticket on the sleeper and they should reserve ahead
