Sleaford query

On the northbound approach to Sleaford just before you get to the station, does anyone with local knowledge know what the very large buildings are on the left hand side in red brick and what look like they have awnings like the older railway stations have or indeed still do as they do on the preserved railways.

It looks very run down, just interested in what it was, did etc...

I can picture the buildings your on about, from what im told i think it was some sort of distribution point though that may not be exactly right from the look of the place it was certainly involved with the railway at some point maybe as a goods station or parcels depot. Someone who knows more than me will be along in a min to correct or confirm.

They were the old Bass Maltings, replacing the smaller malthouses in the area. I believe they opened in 1905 and closed in 1960.
I think there's a preservation order on them, and at some stage after closure part of the complex was used by the NHS - but I could be wrong about that bit.

I did see one sign with NHS logos on but can't remember what the text said.
