What is the history of this section of line

I've been told they don't use it anymore and if so when was the last train please ?

The up line is still in use, and has seen passenger workings (ECML diversions and railtours) both this year (i believe) and certainly last.

The down line is over-grown and out of use, but i do understand there has been consideration to bringing it back into use - certainly if freight over the joint line increases because the level crossing at Sleaford station is a source of traffic congestion when closed.

It has be voiced that freight could use the old GN & GE joint to relieve the EMCL, however, the problem lies in the fact that trains would have to cross Lincoln High Street on the level. Because of this potential, I understand this is why teh Sleaford avoiding line has been kept.

The Lincoln problem could be avoided by an avoiding line, but this was removed in the 80s in part to allow diversion of all passenger trains to Lincoln Central and close St Mark's for development...

Hindsight's wonderful...
