On my visit to Hull today I happened to visit The William Wilberforce Museum , dedicated to his memory and the fight for abolition. In common with its counterpart in Liverpool there is one aspect of the trade severely underepresented.......

The role played by Tribal Chiefs who had no qualms about assisting The Europeans in their quest for bodies, including selling their own people and those of their compatriots. Indeed without this cooperation the slave trade would not have prospered as it did. Arabs were also heavily involved at all levels.

Why are the Europeans the fall guys , and why do we not hear more about The West African individuals who made it possible ? Not PC no doubt

I think that you will have found that indigenous slavery in sub-Saharan Africa had existed well before the arrival of the Europeans and that slaves were just another commodity in the trade routes to and from the areas of Arab influence both to North Africa and to the Middle East.

Your point with regard to the involvement of the Tribal Chiefs has been something that has had been raised in both Nigeria and Gambia since 2005.

Are they asking for reperations from them in the same manner as they are from Europeans ?

You have to look at the Islamic rule that was prelevant in many of these countries from which cross-Atlantic slave trade eminated and then to understand that so-called Christian Western nations are the most easy target for Islamic thinkers to call upon when blame is to be apportioned.
