SKY TV Channel Moves February

Hello all, I've just been informed of the following:

Sky is having a line up change in February and some channels are moving, if you like any of these channels, remember where they have gone!

Sky3 is being removed and being replaced by Sky Atlantic - Sky Channel 108
Sky2 is being removed and is being replaced by Living TV (as far as I understand it so far it is being renamed as Sky Living) - Sky Channel 107

Comedy Central is moving from Sky Channel 126 and is moving down to Sky Channel 112.

MTV is moving from Sky Channel 350 and replacing Comedy Central at 126.

I've heard nothing about what is to replace MTV on channel 350

The channel renaming of Living TV is yet to be confirmed but as far as I understand it, it will be moving to Channel 107.


Sky Atlantic and Living TV moves also bring in a new set of programming, with the TV programme Bones moving from Sky1 to Living TV.

Also unconfirmed, Channel One (previously named Virgin1) is to stop broadcasting within this year (sky channel 121)

I'm not quite sure I like the sound of the name. Does this mean it's American repeats? As I much prefer watching 10+ year old repeats of Airline

I doubt that thieving ******* Murdoch will give anything back to FV users, Sky Atlantic is a carbon copy of HBO channel, though I would much ,more appreciate Sky Sports News back than Sky3! What will happen to Sky3 + 1?

Sky 3 is still showing for the forseeable future.

Is this a sign that Sky might eventually mix channels up completely, getting rid of the pretty clearly defined section for music, kids etc.

Sure, Sky will probably keep the sport and movie channels together - but the others might be moved to create a premium top 50 list (or something similar)?

No, the reason MTV has moved is because it is no longer music but more of general entertainment. This probably puts an end to MTV Shows on 160 too.

Thats a shame, I quite enjoyed some of the evening scheduling on Sky3; Road Wars, Airline also daytime Luton Airport and The Tube!

All those shows will remain (and be repeated ad infinitum) but on other channels.. Well, perhaps not The Tube (maybe time for a new series instead?).

In answer to your original question; I have no idea what it is! I have a Sky box and a Sky chip card which goes in the box. I don't pay any subscription fees.

Sky3 doesn't require a subscription; it's free, and seems to be changing.

If it's coming through the sky receiver then it'll probably switch too the sky atlantic set up, can I ask, what comes up when you choose channels?

If its a sky box I assume you have a sky remote? - when you decide what channel to go onto you press TV Guide and get up a selection screen or scroll up or down through the channels without the tv guide.

Yes, it's just like that and normal Sky (my parents have it at home but pay for it to get most of the channels (except Sports)).

Well Sky Atlantic and Sky Living will take up spots 107 and 108 so I assume you'll get it instead of Sky2 and Sky3 - Sky2 is moving up into the 200's somewhere I think I saw, I have no idea about Sky3, I don't know if/when you'll get it.

Edit: It's not confirmed but Sky3 is yet unmentioned in any move so suspicions are that it will be removed completely

Non subscription is normal Sky with all the games and what not. You simply get a 'This channel is unavailable' message on all channels that paying for would unlock. Removing the viewing card from any normal system would achieve a similar effect.

I much, much prefer it, and whilst it lacks some good channels, eg. Dave, the Sky UI is a million times better than any Freeview system I have ever used.

They seem to be advertising Sky Altantic as HD so does that mean it is only available to HD subscribers and not available to non HD subscribers?

All Sky channels are advertised as HD, but they're in SD too. Sky Atlantic is advertised as free to all Sky subscribers, but you do actually need the HD pack (£10.20) a month to watch it in HD.

I believe Sky has already been reported to the ASA for not making that particularly clear (it's in the small print on some ads, but not all) and I am also told that it's only 'free' for a limited time (August or September), so I'd imagine they'll buy in some fantastic new American shows, then make you pay. (To be fair, did anyone think they'd do anything else?).
