I presume that the original "Jolly Fisherman" train would have been a Leicester Belgrave Rd job, and gone via Nottingham Victoria, seeing as it was a GN thing?

It may have used the LNW/GN Joint from Belgrave Road and run out at Bottesford East Jn.

It is a pain to find traincrew for - only a small number of Nottingham senior conductors and drivers sign the route and traction and doing two trips makes it two diagrams to cover in the peak leave season.

Most 15x services on Saturdays and Sundays are booked 3, 4 or 5 coaches anyway which is generally enough if still busy. The 1730 Skeg - Notts is a 5 car.

But them 5 coaches are badly needed on other EMT local routes which currently get 1 coach trains on summer Saturdays, which is why Central would use West Midlands commuter trains in the East Midlands at the weekend, and why it would make sense to use the HST to Skeggy in the evening as well as the morning.

Ah, of course! Much more likely, I agree. One forgets the incredible network which BR still had up to around 1962.

Shame they arent doing evening hst this year, was perfect for day trippers and holidaymakers alike last year. I've travelled on this a few times and trust me if the suns out the amount of people that go to skeggy for the day locally is a bit mad and more or less fills the hst with absolutely no probs.

But it would still only release maybe one or two carriages. People travel when they want to, not necessarily when the capacity is, hence the cheaper fare to entice folk to use the HST. There aren't enough guards and drivers who sign both HSTs and Skegness so its a non starter and its probably not cost effective to have more than a small number signing them as the train only runs during the high season, and the only other work they tend to get are charters or special events.

Went to skeg yesterday, everything seemed to be a 156 with a 153 attached excluding the hst and the 1730 out of skeg that was 2 156s and a 153. It was busy in all fairness and as you'll be on the first peak weekend of the season next week I would defo expect it to be busier.

PS Everyone seems to have cracked on first class is declassified on the hst this year, I deliberately went into second class for a much quieter journey

I wonder whether there is a forthcoming engineering block involving the diversion of the Skegness working via Lincoln to Sleaford?

It's on the National Rail web site, so appears to be running genuinely, as opposed to just an optional path.
