Skegby Station Nottinghamshire

I’m trying to find details on ‘Skegby Railway Station’, but I have to say I’m finding it difficult, can anyone help.

Skegby is situated in Nottinghamshire, near Sutton in Ashfield.

So far I understand he line was part of the Great Northern Line – Leen valley extension, opened in 1898 – 19xx.

I would love to be able to obtain more photo’s & a timetable.

My British Railways atlas for 1955 shows that it was only open for goods by then.

The website http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/sites.shtml doesn't list this station or either of the adjacent stations on that line, alas!

For some reasons I can't seem to find much about it.
Would have been my local station.

PS: Those were the days eh? When even a small village station had half a dozen staff

The book "Forgotten Railways - East Midlands" by P Howard Anderson has a photo of a train leaving Skegby in 1959. He wrote the book in 1973 and said there was a subway from the booking office to the platforms lined with cream glazed bricks and that it was "still intact".

We have a section on nottin gham and mansfield related books in mansfield tesco (opposite the sandwiches, ill have a look for you.) and let me know if you see anything about pleasley vale, or the woodhouse quarry(although i beleive that is still slightly open)

You could also have a look on irwell press website. They have the index for British railways illustrated and railway bylines. If there is anything in them and you can't find a back copy, I've got most of them, so I can look them up for you.
