Hi there,

I purchased an e ticket through trainline from Wrexham gen to Liverpool james street. It wasn’t an e ticket and I had to collect it, unfortunately I did not and was fined at james street station. However, on my SJPN it states I was fined at moorfields station in Liverpool and got off there. I now have to decide whether I’m guilty or not guilty of the above, is the inaccuracy of the departure station relevant?

Thsnks

Minor mistakes such as this can be corrected informally in court. It will not enable you to "get off scot free", if that is what you are thinking.

Can you provide more info on what happened here - you say you were 'fined at James Street station' but later you say you have got an SJPN. What happened
with the fine issued at St James street - what was that? Was it a Penalty fare? Did you pay it? Did you ignore it / Appeal it?

Can you upload any copies of the docs for people to see (remove personal details / references). This might help people advise you on this.

The fine was issues at james street. I did not respond and effectively buried my head in the sand. I’m not trying to absolve myself from any personal responsibility. If I have to pay and plead guilty that’s fine.

I was also admitted to hospital under s.136 of the mental health act and since have been having homecare come visit me because of this. Debt/s are one of the reasons for this.

I’m just trying to establish the next course of action.

Yes arrival station was james street.

I have had an e ticket before and just collected at the kiosk at james street. I was under the impression there was nothing wrong with that.

Ask your GP whether they, their GP Federation or their NHS Place offers a social prescribing link worker. I'm sorry to hear about this, s.136 is a non trivial event and a socially responsible company would take that generously in their stride. Merseyrail/Merseytravel may or may not be such an organisation. However a Link Worker can liaise on your behalf to try and get a better outcome. To get an SPJN you normally would get an amount of paperwork about the issue beforehand, if not you can consider having it set aside via a Statutory Declaration, but again a Link Worker may be able to navigate this for you.

A statutory declaration is not an available option here. That option only applies to someone convicted in their absence without having prior knowledge that they were being prosecuted.
