situational judgement test

How I can prepare for Trainee Drivers SJT? I work in the rail industry and it's not always 'obvious' to know what the exact course of action to take for each of the scenarios given.

I'm sure the idea is that you're not meant to prepare for it, just go with whatever you feel is the best answer. I really don't think there is a real way to prepare for it.

From my experience there's a clear distinction between what set out 'on paper' and what the common working practice is and believe it or not it's not always 'safety first', sometimes it's meeting operational targets coming directly from management, what are you supposed to do, defy the management, if yes, would that look good to a perspective employer when train drivers are supposed to follow instructions. some of these questions unless you're actually at the classroom stage of the process or among those who develop these tests you simply won't know all of these answers .

I got told off a senior that there is strong evidence that those who attempt to prepare for SJTs actually do worse.

I thought they just used it to find out what areas to ask you more about in your MMI? It's not pass or fail.

If you go in and start saying what you think they want then you'll just come unstuck in the interview when you contradict yourself and if you come unstuck in that interview you'll just crash and burn....

Just go with what YOU think the outcome would be for each one and you'll be fine.

The SJE is best done without practice, and without asking others for help, because its a test to judge YOU and you alone, although the questions will be the same for all the candidates, how you personally answer the questions gives the people who will then hold the MMI with you an insight into how your thought processes are, and will ask questions based on the answers you give

Rual Duke is spot on, there is no pass or fail on this test, its purely to gauge your answers, and the questions you may be asked in the MMI will relate to those answers and more importantly HOW you arrived at those answers

The way I did it, I read the question once, and gave what I thought was the closest answer to what I personally felt was the right answer for me and no one one else and thats it, dont try and over think it, there is an old saying, your first instincts are probably the correct ones
