Can anyone help.

Between 1986 and 1989 was Sir Nigel Gresley ever painted in Green and if so why?

I have a friend who says he remembers seeing it and has a photo somewhere in his packing cases.

One of the early A4 liveries was the same Apple Green Flying Scotsman made famous. This was long before Garter Blue came into existence.

Also, as I'm sure you're aware, BR Dark Green livery is also a common livery on many preserved locos and is certainly no stranger to an A4.

Looking at the photo gallery on the "Sir Nigel Gresley" website though, it doesn't appear that No.7 was ever painted in BR (Or LNER) Green livery between 1986 and 1989: LNER Garter blue throughout that period.
