Sir David Attenborough turns 100!

Amid all the news of divisive local elections results, I figured we could use some positive news and maybe have something to celebrate. Today Sir David Attenborough turned 100, and I like many others have enjoyed his documentaries about the natural world and his contributions to our understanding of it, so much that over 50 species have been named after him. I have fond memories of Planet Earth II when that iguana hatcling made a daring escape from the snake pit, and even more so when I found out more young people watched it than they did Britain's Got Talent. Here's to a century of Sir David Fredrick Attenborough!

(Also a small disclaimer for anyone who read the first part of the thread name and almost had a mini-heart attack. Apologies, we've all been there at least once )

Received a huge fanfare at the celebration concert last night which he managed to attend, sitting as special guest with Prince William.

Without meaning to be too morbid, but given the fanfare and celebration his centenary has seen, including from senior royals, when his time comes I wouldn't be surprised if Attenborough gets a state funeral (unless he explicitly doesn't want one).

If it is on the cards for him to be offered one, I’d fully expect that he’s already been asked and the answer is known. Would be the first for a non-royal since Churchill. He’s looking very well for someone who is 100 though! It will be a very sad day when he does pass on.

Michael Palin is looking old though. Managed to slip in a joke about visiting both poles before Attenborough had visited either, confirming that he meant the North & South poles and not Warsaw! (Not sure he was supposed to say that!)
