Single Units On Atherton Lines on Saturdays?

Anyone know why the Atherton line was Mostly Single Units yesterday? i was aboard 142033 on a Ex Kirkby Service and it was leaving lots of Passengers behind at nearly all stops after hag fold didnt help there was 4 prams on from Orrell.

i also noted the ones we passed the other way where all single units we lost approx five minutes at Swinton alone letting people off via the rear door only.
