Hello again. I have a Eurostar trip booked next month. I shall be in London already at the beginning of the trip, so I do not need a connecting ticket for my outbound journey, but will need to get home after returning from France during the afternoon peak.

Is it possible to buy a CIV single FROM St Pancras (to Derby) that will allow me to take the first convenient train after my Eurostar arrives, allowing for delays etc? And if so, should I buy it beforehand or can I present my E* ticket on arrival and buy it on the day of travel?

Thanks.

Usual advice applies - book by phone with Eurostar domestic sales (01233 617913). You could get an advance for the first sensible train after your timetabled E* arrival and if you do end up delayed and miss it they must put you on the next one for no extra charge.

I don't think so, no. According to the Man in Seat 61 (who knows a lot about these things):

You can only buy them to London International (one way or return) you cannot buy one ways or returns starting in London.

http://brfares.com/#fares?orig=LNE&dest=DBY shows some advance singles available from London to Derby, but that's not what you want. The flexible singles and returns are only available in the other direction. Of course you could buy a High Saver Return from Derby to London and throw away the outward part. This costs £69 and the return portion is valid on any train. If the times suited though, a normal super off-peak single from London to Derby would be cheaper at £60.50. This is valid to depart St Pancras "Between 1026 & 1515(inclusive) and at or after 1859".

That is probably a better option than my suggestions.

Tickets FROM London International (like tickets TO Boundary Zones) do exist for some flows and London - Derby is one of them, though only for Advance fares.

A quick look at the Fares Finder gives prices from £14 to £48 in Standard, and £19 to £108 in First Class.

The tickets sold by Eurostar over the phone are not "London International (CIV)" tickets, they're a different animal called "Lndon Estar CIV". Essentially, if it's possible to book a "through" single ticket on eurostar.com from Paris or Brussels to Derby then it should be possible to buy the Lndon Estar CIV to Derby single that you're after over the phone.

I have bought several singles from London International CIV to Leeds in the past, via the E* domestic sales number given earlier

I should have qualified it by saying tickets you buy over the phone from E* with origin/destination Derby are Lndon Estar CIV...
