Sim questions

Hello,

I am interested in having a go with a train simulator, but before I launch myself headlong into this world, I would like to ask:

- where is a good place to start as a beginner?
- Which simulator allows the most customisation eg route-creation, rolling stock, timetabling etc.? How easy are they to customise?
- Is there a simulator which does the full length of the S&D and or other historic/closed routes?

Also for consideration is what will run well on my system? I have a new HP Windows 11 laptop (x64) with 238GB HDD, 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-1115G4 @ 3.00GHz, 2901 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s).

It sounds like you would be best served by Train Simulator Classic. It's old, and the quality of the locos and routes available for sale varies massively, but it'll run on anything, has a powerful editor that isn't too hard to use provided you read the various tutorials available online, and has the S&D from Bath to Templecombe available for purchase, along with a variety of other historical British routes. I can give recommendations on specific routes and locos if you're interested.
