What has happened to these? I am aware of the ex- SouthEastern ones in a shocking state of repair but I thought these were in better condition.

All 3 of them are currently stored, along with the Ex South Eastern Class 508s down in Eastleigh Works...

There was a time where they were due to head to Merseyrail - and even got dragged up to Warrington, but due to several reasons they were rejected and sent back down to Eastleigh again.

Here's one of Carl Watsons pictures with 301 in:

I'd guess it can't be long before most of them go for scrap. Is there any realistic chance of any of them being used again ?

Interesting. I did hear it was a speculative move on the part of the RoSCo, rather than any commitment to lease by Merseyrail Electrics. The pair were offered up by Angel Trains, when Merseyrail were looking at running their 'Polar Express' special, around Xmas 2010. In the event, ME sourced the stock required from their existing fleet and the 508s were dumped at Warrington for (what seemed like) ages, before being returned to Eastleigh.
