Came across the attached recently. I won't give any more detail than "recently" so as not to cause anyone to get in trouble - though the guard didn't seem concerned that I (and another passenger) took a photo (I did mention to him that neither his face nor the unit number was present so there wouldn't be any way to identify it).

Anyone else seen any other good ones (other than "Elf Express" and "Bah Humbug", and my favourite "The Master Cobbler" on a Northampton fast)?

Do TOCs frown upon this kind of thing or is it tolerated? It provided a bit of entertainment for otherwise annoyed passengers.

Edit: for Blindtraveler's benefit (and anyone else using a screen reader) it says "Late Again !"

TPE did a day out for a little girl not long ago and managed to get her name on the front of a 185

'Button Moon' was the best one I saw on a 450 once, wish I still kept the photo of it I took.

Desiros are good at this, you can put anything you want on the screen AFAICT.

Some guards have been known to put the old Southern Region headcode (still used internally, of course, but rarely displayed to the public on SWT's newer stock) in the destination screen.

I've also seen SWT 158s, which appear to have a more fixed range of possible destinations, saying "Seaside Express" (I saw this with the FGW loan unit and again with the Lymington shuttle!), and "Mystery Excursion" once or twice too (I guess that old BR feature is still there!).

"Mystery Excursion" is indeed still there, though the PIS on this shot rather spoilt it :)

The Penistone Line music trains are usually 144s so no chance of anything fancy on the blinds apart from "Special" which I understand Northern higher-ups don't like because somebody once complained after thinking they weren't allowed to board at Huddersfield. If 144012 ever gets used maybe there'll be some wiggle-room though...

The Guard who put "He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy" on the side of my pendo home the other night wins points for sharing my sense of humour... :)

I had Gran Canaria on a LM 350 at Crewe a few years ago. Saw the attached on Christmas eve too!

I think I saw a 450 that said "DAZZLER" on it last christmas. As for the 158/159s, I'm sure I saw one of those that said "Kyle of Lochalsh" on it despite the fact it was in completely the wrong area, going in the wrong direction. I think it was going to Yeovil or somewhere like that.

Not surprised, I've seen one with Drem on it!

As has been discussed a few times before, if the original BR screens are still fitted on a 158 there are a good few 'highlights' available, including Mystery Excursion, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Manchester United Football Ground (scrolling), and a selection of far flung Scottish locations. Some have been modified, in the case of SWT most (if not all) now have LED screens and the list available has been drastically reduced.

A few years ago there was a youtube clip with the automatic announcer on the 185 saying "This train is for toilets and will be calling at Grimsby toilets...." in place of Manchester Airport.

On London buses iBus would occasionally crash and substitute one word for another. I recall hearing one that said something like "168 Tooting Hampstead Heath", having substituted Tooting for "to". Not heard it in a while so I guess the bug is fixed.

For a music train bound for Penistone, it would be most entertaining to add a space.

That was me, 1815 Waterloo-Havant back in October, control/management were aware and were quite happy about it.:D

Is that Jeremy Corbyn???!!!
Yes, unfortunately I remember the childish and puerile nonsense from last year. Sad and pathetic, I hope we don't have a repeat of it this year.

Sounds like someone had a quiet February 14th last year...

I think I know who that is and he does a lot of funny messages on the pendo doors, though there are a couple of Euston Tm' s who also put unusual messages on! next time I get an ecs voyager I should have a mess with where it's going.

Excellent! I was on my way to a meeting in Kingston, and wondered what everyone was looking at.

Say what you like, but to me the CIS/PIS is for information not, childish nonsense on February 14th.

I got a b****cking for putting 81 London Waterloo on the side and 81 Waterloo on the front, which is a lot more helpful than Waterlove or Hampton Courting.

I'd agree that putting misleading things on the PIS is not big and not clever. Most of the LM silly examples have been seen on stabled stock - the "Late again!" one that prompted me to start the thread was put on after the last station stop on the service, for instance, and once the crew had changed ends the correct next destination was put up. Not likely to confuse anyone. The only one that wasn't was the "Master Cobbler" one, but I'd venture the view that anyone boarding the Cobbler (the then 1813 Euston-Northampton fast) probably didn't pay any attention to (a) the station PIS, (b) the train PIS or (c) any announcements, and just boarded a 12-car train at platform 16 at about the right time, as that train back then was platformed consistently enough that a good many commuters tended to enter via the side entrance and board without reference to any kind of PIS.

The best one I have seen a picture of is a couple of Voyagers with the blind of the back one saying "I Love You!" and the front saying "Stop Following Me!" - sadly the photo doesn't seem to be around now
