Hoping there is some one out there who works this type of roster. One of the roles I am applying for is 8 hours, but 12 hours at weekends. There doesn't seem to be any meal relief or relief. In stead meal relief is built into the roster and so is general purpose Spare.

I was wondering how this works and how it differs. I understand the meal relief role - as one week rather than working Panel X you will be rostered to be the meal relief. But I don't get how the General Purpose Spare works. If you're not needed do you get the time off... Does this mean there isn't as much chance for overtime? Is this still worked on 4 week cycle or is 6.

Hope anyone who works this style or has can shed some light on it.

Thanks.

Probably better to as in the dedicated Signalling thread, but....

I’m a GPR on a five week roster cycle, but on 12hrs turns not the mix of 8 and 12 you mention so I can’t give a real life example I’m afraid.

The roster we work is a rolling across the week spare three day week, Mon/Tues/Weds then RD until the following Thurs followed by Thurs/Fri/Sat (no Booked Sunday work) and repeat with a week of thurs/Fri/Sat (RD Sunday) Mon/Tues/Weds into a week off.

It’s fantastic I think, more time off than you can shake a stick at and massive opportunity to work RDW if your that way inclined.

GPR you’ll have you base roster as above, but your at the will of the Roster clerk as to which turns you pick up on Thursday (roster day) for the next week starting Sunday.

Most locations are short staffed so your unlikely to be spare, if you are you’ll be required to book on at your location and undertake duties your LOM instructs usually.

Depending on which grade you are, your FP rate and how much RDW/Sunday work you like to you can in reality double your basic salary very easily - if it’s a 12hr roster even with doing so you won’t feel like you live at work, on a mixed 8/12 then I wouldn’t recommend it from what I’ve heard.

Thanks.

But I'm not sure this answers the question, I don't think I was clear. The role is that of a resident. But built into there roster is GPR Spare days. So is this where the 5 week cycle comes in instead of 4. So you would do your normal 4 week roster, but then week 5 would see your shift covering the GPR - if needed you work, if not then more time off? Ive worked 8 hours and I've also worked 12s all with dedicated relief, so am struggling to picture the roster.

Cheers

In your GPR week you cover sickness and holidays... if there is no holiday or sickness or shifts that need covering (rare) then at my place you are put on shift and give extra breaks. You do not get more time off
