Q1:There are 4 semaphore signals operated by Signal Box "A" and 4 by Signal
Box "B". Trains travel in one direction only towards Box A and then onto Box
"B" The signals are passed in the following order: A1, A2, A3, A4, B1, B2, B3,
B4.
a) Which 2 signals are distant signals?
b) Which signal box has control over the release of A4 signal?
c) Which 2 signals are section signals?
d) What is the distance called between A1 and A2 signals?
e) What must the block indicator display to allow release of the section signal?

What if B's distant was co-located with A4? ;)

(Take a look at the arrangement on the Down at Gainsborough - before Lea Road closed - for an even more interesting arrangement!)

A4 is not guaranteed to be the section signal either if it is an Intermediate Block Section Home.

Finally, who said it was Absolute Block ;) .

Anyone for a signal naming quiz? You would have to name the signals just by looking at a diagram.
