Signalling problems caused trouble for some services in the Up direction from Sheffield. Unfortunately I was held up in the disruption. The train I was on (9V57 XC HST) had to actually be diverted on the barrow hill loop by going back north again, what was odd was, platform 6's starter aspect was 'off' and suddenly changed to danger. we were held at sheffield for about 10 minutes, before to my shock we went the wrong way! thought I got the wrong train to Newcastle :lol: BRailnetwork was equally confused! We both got off at derby about 30 mins late
does anyone know specifically what went wrong at Sheffield PSB?

It was due to a failed train. The signal was not 'thrown back' as such as the driver was informed before the signal went back. Nothing went the wrong way, it was merely diverted around the failed unit. Due to the professional manner in which the signalling staff dealt with the diversion, I think you should be thankful you were only 30 minutes late.
