I don't know whether this fits in with this thread, but I believe all 3 major boxes on Preston to Blackpool North line are ex-L&Y boxes with full complement of hardware...If so any idea what is happening to this hardware, excepting scrap...I know that there is a campaign possibly to get the stuff preserved ref Poulton box..Any ideas?

Bearing in mind that the original plan for closing manual signal boxes and replacing them with Railway Operating Centres has been considerably delayed, it is quite likely that Network Rail will recover equipment for spares in case of need for boxes remaining open.

Poulton box won't be saved due to its location, it's due to become firewood during the blockade, along with Salwick, Kirkham, Carleton and Blackpool North

Poulton was being eyed up by Poulton & Wyre Railway Society, who I am a member of....It was a dream 6 months ago to have the box given over to them, but reality with regards to nearness of 25 kw or whatever of power meant that was a non starter...With regards to the box ,it is the contents of there and other locations mentioned that I am concerned about along with other enthusiasts...The need for spare parts will have disappeared by the time this line is converted along with the likes of the Bolton area resignalling as well.

What I am trying to find out if there is any efforts being put in place to get the equipment from one of those locations to be made available to a society such as the L&Y Society ,Signalling Societys,or whether it will be sold off ,via whatever avenues, tender etc.

Only 14 weeks or so before the wreckers move in.

Contact the NR route and ask them. The society should have a contact. I doubt NR will give you anything free.

There is still a great need for spare parts for mechanical signalling systems. Sourcing replacements is very difficult hence the need to take them out of redundant boxes.
