Signalling assessment and Driving Assessment - comparison

Interesting question I had from a colleague the other day - I know a lot of people who have had one of the above, but off hand cannot think of anyone who has done both. If there is someone who has done both, how did they compare to each other? Several sections seem to be very similar, but others quite different.

If there is someone who has done both, how did they compare to each other? Several sections seem to be very similar, but others quite different.

They are different but with some similarities i.e. they are testing for similar qualities but the tests are not the same, if that makes sense. I have done signaller tests and have/still am practicing for trainee driver tests. There are some on here that will have done both, who can advise better. However the signaller tests are set to change, becoming more advanced. This is not neccessarily harder or a bad thing for new recruits

I have done both. Signalling assessment in 2007 and was a Grade 8 Signaller for NR for a year and driver assessment in 2012. Currently training to be a train driver with GA.

They are similar in some ways, although signaller one has changed a bit I think since i did it. From my experience the dials test is harder for signaller I would say, but structured interview a lot quicker and less intense. Reactions and listening tests the same. Sure had a more maths based test as well for Signaller.

We did have an OPC course before driving training discussing about how to learn and what the psychometric tests test for and how we compared individually to others who have passed I.e whether your below average or above average and what parts of the training ahead you may find easier or harder. Very interesting!

Anyway big rules exam tomorrow. All being well start Traction next week.
