Yes there were people on my course that were external that applied once and got a grade 8) but if you want the job then apply for everything!!!

One or thirty applications, all that matters is getting a great job

I know people who have got in first time for different grades of box. All but one were BTP Officers. It’s all about how you present at the competency based application. I applied a few times and got through the sift but fell down at the online assesment stage each time. The numerical reasoning and logical thinking ones in particular....never been great at these sorts of tests.

I have just been offered a grade 5 at the first attempt so if the luck is with you it can be done... Start in 4 weeks time as long as I get through the medical!

Online tests were completed by me for a previous application for 3 Bridges but I then withdrew as I realised I didn't want the commute.

So timeline was:

7 Dec application submitted.
11 Dec - tests shown as completed (i.e. recognised that I had already completed and passed them)
10 Jan - invite to interview
21 Jan- interview
15 Feb - medical (although I could have had 8 Feb but was committed that day)

I start 11 March on my admin week assuming there are no hiccups with the medical. Fingers crossed!

Sorry to jump in mid thread, Any of you successful guys, when filling in the external applications, there is the 69 question section, have you done this with examples. When completing the example, how much detail do you go into? Is 1 paragraph acceptable? or do you go into great detail?

All of mine were one paragraph - were general statements such as I have experience of doing such and such which demonstrates this area... However I have come from an emergency services background so found it very easy to evidence a lot of the 69 questions and also when it came to interview the non-techncial skills.

Probably best to check out the dedicated Siganller thread....
Agreed - I needed to ask very few questions as pretty much everything has been covered already on the main thread. It might be a very long read but is well worth it if you want the job.

As long as you keep the response to the point, and evidence what YOU did, not “we did” etc a paragraph should be okay but it depends on your competence evidence.
