Can someone explain what SIGNALLER 2 is and what it entails? thanks to any responses.

I'd assume the 2 is related to the grade or difficulty of the signalbox in question. They go from grade 1 (level crossings) up to grade 9 (busy places like Manc Piccadily, etc).

Correct. Normally it's grade 2

Which, if further reference is needed, is a very unrushed job. Grade 2s are very quiet indeed.

Does anyone know where the signal box is that was advertised by network rail in September as Parbold. I don't think its parbold cabin.

If it's advertised specifically as Parbold, then that's probably what it is! Anything's possible, of course...

Some grade 2 boxes are "unrushed", but some are relatively very busy indeed (and surely worthy of a higher grade). With 2tph each way through the day, Parbold's certainly not the quietest out there, but it should still be a reasonably peaceful existence.

IIRC there is only one box at Parbold, the nameboard on the outside says "Parbold Cabin" but the diagram merely says Parbold.

There is indeed only one SB in Parbold, which is worked AB between Wigan Wallgate and Burscough Bridge SBs; however there is a crossing keeper at Chapel Lane MCG which is no more than 1/2 a mile from Parbold (Chapel Lane worked as a ground frame under release from Parbold SB).

Don't always believe what the location says on the website. When you apply for it, it sometimes gives you a much more specific location. For example, vacancies at 'london' were recently advertised when in fact it was Wimbledon. A few years ago I applied for a job at 'rochester' which turned out to be cuxton, for example

Thanks for the info. I assumed it was parbold as its a small village, another said Preston which could easily be a number of places. It was just that one of the candidates at assessment seemed to think parbold cabin only operated the crossing and the SB was further down the line-must be a case of crossed wires, surely one of the last thing a signaller wants!
