Signaller. What pay grade while I'm training?

Hello everyone. I start my training for signalling next week. I'm going to be working in a grade 2 box but I was wondering something, while I'm training at the signalling school. Will I be on grade 1 pay and if so, how much is that?
Second question, will I go onto my normal party once I've finished signalling school or will it be once I'm signed off to work by myself?

It will be grade 1 pay, not sure what that is - and you will receive this right up until you pass you of your box, so about 6 weeks (roughly) after training school

Grade 1 salary is £24,166 pa, which works out at £1,858.92 per 4 weekly pay period (before deductions).
If you have to travel to signalling school on Sundays - if it's too far to get there for 0900 on Monday morning - you'll also get a minimum of 6 hours pay at Sunday rate which at G1 is £19.92 per hour, so £119.50. If it takes longer than 6 hours to get there you should be paid accordingly. I think they base it on the time it takes from the station nearest your home to the station nearest to your training centre.

Hi know this is an older post but wondering if you could give me some information if possible. Had my interview for a grade 2 position last week and find out if I have got it next. Just wondering if you could give me an idea of the actual take home pay while training please? If I am fortunate enough to get the position I'd be taking a pay cut and just trying to get the facts together so I can make an informed decision. Any info on it would be greatly appreciated as really want to go for it but need to know how much worse of I'll be if I do for mortgage, bills etc. I pay quite a bit in pension at the minute so hopefully not a million miles away but any info would be brilliant thanks

You'd be paid Grade 1 rate until you'd 'passed out' at your box (i.e. qualified to work solo). See Mikesig's post upthread for the current G1 basic.

This figure will rise in 2018 but the increase is determined by November's RPI figure (which, according to the ONS site, isn't released until mid-December). October's RPI was 4%.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I had a read of the above and get that is the amount before deductions but was hoping someone who had been through at the same grade recently would be able to give me an "after" deductions figure so I have some idea of what I looking at taking home each month? Like I mentioned I'm currently on more but have alot of deductions, so hopefully won't be too far away from my current take home or at least workable till I am "passed out" and nearer my current salary, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Go on “listen to taxman” website, just need salary per year and tax code will give fairly accurate take home pay

I don't know what the location is but at a guess you would be looking at a basic take home of around £1400 - £1450 per 4 weeks on grade1 money after regular NR pension with no overtime or enhancements. No London or south east allowance, and without knowing your personal situation regarding tax code etc

@bendy1986 sorry to bring up an old thread and to make an irrelevant comment to the above post but I’m just curious (as you’re local to me) which training centre you eventually was sent to? You mentioned in previous threads you were going to Peterborough and then suggested Coventry in one of your last posts.

Could you shed any light and let me know any info I may find usefull.

Clearly you want to find out where you'll be training as soon as possible but the answer is that you could be sent wherever there is a space on a course. Where pther people have been sent on the past has no bearing on things. The main school is now at York but you might easily end up at Westwood, Basingstoke or Perth

Thanks @Highlandspring youre quite right, I’m still curious though as to how many training centres there are in England for signallers to train at. Are the four centres you’ve mentioned above the only centres in the country or are there others?
