Signaller vacancy

Hi all,
Just a little bit of advice needed. I applied for a grade2 signaller vacancy near to me. Got the email saying they would like to take my application further and did the language test. Passed that then two weeks later got application unsuccessful as some other people were a closer match. They then urged me to reapply for other vacancies when available. Is that a generic response or could they be interested in the future? Cheers

Yeah, that's a generic email I'm afraid!

Was it the comms test you did over the phone? Good news that lasts a while now. Keep a look out for more roles, but unfortunately as the signaller grade is reducing its numbers massively, it is getting harder to get into the grade.

Dont i know it, Goonbarrow Jcn is one out of 5 or six that ive applied for that might go somewhere as the other 4 have come back unsuccessful, even ones closer to me. Just keep applying and hopefully you might get invited to an assessment.

I applied for that as well, and got the same reply.

End of the day, it could of gone to someone internally, or people with assessments already passed. Who knows, it's a game of unluck, and as I said, it's really only going to get harder with a lot of signal boxes closing this year and next, and a displaced signallers trying to look else where for work.

Luckily I have a friend on the inside and found out both positions went to external applicants and there was no internal applications. Just got to keep banging the applications in and who knows maybe one day. Thanks for the replies.

Just a quick message of support to all of you - I had numerous applications turned down, only getting to the interview stage for one of those. It all suddenly came together, and I went from being on thr point of giving up to accepting an offer within a couple of weeks. Keep trying, and good luck .

Saying that, I have my third interview coming up! It's a lovely little grade 2 depot box, can't wait!! Fingers crossed

Have you made yourself known to the local operations manager or any box residents. I was a signaller in Par SB for a while. The railway is all about who you know and not what you know I'm afraid.
