Signaller Queries

Hi Folks

I currently have 2 active applications for signaller positions and I am pleased to say that I have made the interview for both vacancies. However I have 2 questions and would be grateful if somebody could answer them:

1. Last year, I had an unsuccessful interview for a signaller position (Feedback said that I was not concise enough) Are signaller interviews still based on the 8 non-technical skills, plus a couple of location specific questions?

2. The boxes have applied for are West Midlands Regional Signalling Centre and London Liverpool Street IECC- Am I right in thinking that these boxes operate a 12 hour shift pattern and does anybody know the pattern? I work 12 hour shifts in my current job so they aren't an issue.

Hello! Yes they are still based on the non technical skills. That's the current HR favourite!

I don't have any specific knowledge of the roster at West Mids or Liverpool Street, but I can't imagine it's too different from ours.

A typical month is usually something like this:

N N N N RD RD RD
D D D RD N N N
RD RD RD D D D D
RD RD RD RD RD RD RD

Average 14 shifts per month, 1.5 Sundays per month.

Standard pattern per shift is two hours on, one hour off but that depends on the amount of cover available.

19 days' A/L.

That looks like an ok rota- my current rota is:

Am I right in thinking that Sundays are paid as overtime and that if you can get somebody to swap with you, great, but if you cannot you are obliged to work the Sunday?

Yes, Sundays are 'outside'. No problem getting them covered as the 'Grabbers' are even more desperate for them on a 12-hour roster!

I'm 99% certain that West Mids. are on an 8 hour roster with 12 hours on Sundays (i.e. 0600-1400, 1400-2200, 2200-0600) - don't quote me on that though.

Not sure on Liverpool Street IECC.
