Signal Number Search/ Map?

Hi folks at RailUK!

Before I start, let me just put out there that this is my first time visiting a railway forum and am not much more clued up on the ins and outs of the networks as a member of the general public, so if I make any mistakes to terminology or anything, feel free to correct!

Anyway,

I had recently watched a short youtube film with a large part of it revolving around freight / commuter trains. I would link it here but I have only gone and lost the link...

This film looked like it was based near my home as I think I recognise one of the shots of a freight train zooming past, but the only way of identifying it would be a code in black with a white background, underneath a signalling light.

I'm pretty sure it read 'OL 357', anyway of finding this on a map or anywhere nearby even. I would never make such an effort to find something so minimal, but I guess my curiosity has clearly taken over!

The first part 'OL' refers to a location usually of the signal box. I looked here, http://www.railwaycodes.org.uk/signal/signal_boxeso.shtm , and think it could mean Ordsall Lane, which is in Manchester. Sorry I can't be of more help. If you could give your general location (like a nearby station), it could help narrow it down.

It's not Ordsall Lane, the signal IDs are MC round there (Manchester ROC, Manchester Central w/sn).

Giving us the name of the town might help narrow down the exact location...

I think the OP needs to look in his browsing history to see if he can locate the link.

Hi, yes OL is West Midlands SCC Cherwell Valley Workstation which starts from South of Kings Sutton to South of Leamington Spa. There is an OL 3157 signal I believe near Cropredy if that’s what you’re after.

if you know roughly where it is, look on https://www.opentraintimes.com/maps where each signal has it's number listed

The OP mentions that the code is white on black background. For many years signal number plates have been the other way round, with black on white being used for the dialing code for the driver to use to contact the signaler from the cab (where it is unsafe to use the phone at the signal). We don't know if this is a current or recent video or something historic, so the signal in question may not even exist any longer.
