Signal Boxes on Closure

Just wondering if there is a system in place for offering signal boxes after closure to preserved railways etc or do they have to put in a request.
I ask this because I noticed the contract for the Peterborough - Spalding - Lincoln Joint Line resignalling included the "demolition of signal boxes and crossing boxes".
If a private company is responsible it would seem it is out of the railways hands.

There definitely is a system to offer boxes and lever frames for reuse, but the the majority are demolished quickly as part of the contract. If brick built they can't be easily transported 'whole' though, and there are bound to be some where it would be difficult to gain access for transport.

I tried to buy a wooden crossing box from BR many years ago.
The S&T chap, who I knew well, told me I had no chance as I needed virtually unlimited insurance etc etc to work anywhere close to a line.

If they are listed, NR have to give notice, then it only takes one member of the public to say leave it, Rhyl number two box fell into this trap,a person from the West Midlands objected, so it remains rotting and covered in foliage.
