Presuming railhead temperatures got a little too spicy in Leamington, have there been any other codes seen due to the recent heat?1779891447207.png

I Havn't managed to screenshot any but Stafford (Trent Valley Jn) - Whitehouse Jn (Up Slow) has had plenty of similar ones during the heatwave, "HEAT" "NOGO" / "TOO-" "-HOT" and a few variations of those!

Not to sure how to get a pic up on here but currently at Manchester Victoria it seems Platforms 1 and 2 are suffering problems as Tracksy is showing DAMP ABIT on Platform 1 and on Platform 2 MORE DAMP.

Those two read more logically when shown the right way round as per Open Train Times... "a bit damp" and "more damp". Screenshot below.

I had to get both platforms blocked this morning at Victoria. The roof burst early on, thankfully very early on but it wasn't safe to run trains out of there. Signaller who's on today is a top guy!

The noise and sight of all that water coming down was something else! I knew what was coming had moved all the passengers away

Not a good day for Man Vic - looks like a freight has sat down across the junctions to the west.

Hope it didn’t affect the Victoria Tap

The up line at South Marston (just east of Swindon) currently has "KRS" in one berth. Any ideas, folks?

Key Route Strategy. Basically heat related reminders that they won't move certain points, use certain loops, etc. Reduces operational risk.

Ah, what's the difference, are ESRs just more short notice?

ESR = Emergency Speed Restriction - introduced without prior notice, hence "emergency".
TSR = Temporary Speed Restriction - details published in advanced before being introduced OR was an ESR but where details have now been published.

By published, that means printed (now electronically) in the notices provided to train drivers and other staff, such as the Weekly Operating Notice (WON).

Heat related speed restrictions and speed restrictions imposed after rail or other track defects have been found are typical reasons for a ESR.

TSR are typical after engineering works (where the track is not yet suitable for the normal speed limit) or where there are long term problems with the track.

Drives know their PSRs (permanent speed restrictions) via there route knowledge and will be aware of any TSRs (Temporary speed restrictions) when they sign on duty and read their notices but may not be aware of any ESR (emergency speed restrictions) that can be implemented at any time at short notice.

That's the theory. For what happens in practice see the RAIB Summary of Learning linked from this thread.

It makes depressing reading. Only a matter of time before a train leaves the track. In one incident (Spital Junction) "it was likely that some of the train’s wheels lifted off the rails".
