Sighting of 'Dr Death'

Hi,
So I post a picture of a certain gentleman on Facebook with a long trenchcoat and stepladder and apparently he's called 'death'

Without naming / photos to avoid personal identification, does anyone know why he's called this by so many on social media? If you're not in the know, apologies.

He's obviously becoming a bit of a comedy legend whether he knows it or not. However he was at a station the other day and was happily chatting with people on the platform, so I'm quite suprised, he's getting quite malicious nicknames (whether that's the intention or not), to which therefore, must be a story behind

I believe it’s something to do with allegedly pointing out fare-dodging bashers to railway officials, in days gone by. All seems a bit malicious really that this individual is still subject to ridicule.

Thanks for pointing out. I thought it might have been something like that over serial killer or something lol
Seems strange though, to get a widely popular recognition nickname for pointing out a few fare Dodgers

I've chatted to the gentlemen in question briefly , seemed perfectly pleasant. He has probably photographed me 100 times, and incase anyone is wondering i last got him in my spotters book about a month or so ago, so he is alive and well.
He is renowned for always wearing the same long trenchcoat whatever the weather.
He has had photos published many times over the years in railway media.
If I ever where to see anyone taking the mick out of him to his face or calling him it to his face, safe to say id intervene, but I think most of it is fairly good humoured and provided he is unaware I can't see the harm.

Not actual dying, but a post about somebody rail enthusiasts of a certain age will either know or have heard about. A West Country man known to rail enthusiasts as 'Death' has been somewhat of a celebrity for a number of years. Here is 'Death' at Bugle...

Although i've been using Twitter regularly i've never seen a mention of him in the last month. Was he more dangerous than usual?

Yep... that's the one...

I can remember Dr Death from the 80s. Was always at Exeter St Davids on a Saturday. I believe he was a solicitor by trade. Still got the trademark coat when the 50s where last in Cornwall.
