Sighted in Tunbridge Wells

I was in the said Kent town this afternoon, waiting for a bus. I didn't have to wait all that long, but the first bus which went past me was a double decker in the livery of uno.

Does anyone have any idea what it was doing in Tunbridge Wells? Hatfield-based uno would be an odd choice for rail replacement work in TW, but in any case there wasn't any today so it wasn't that. uno don't do private hire as far as I'm aware, and in any case a double decker which normally runs in service would be an odd private hire vehicle. The blind showed "Sorry not in service", but there appeared to be a small number of people on board (half a dozen perhaps).

What was it doing there?

There was a large rally near Maidstone today, was it old enough to be a preserved one?

Ah! I'm not convinced that it was, but that rally undoubtedly does explain the genuine old bus that I saw a bit later on somewhere near Hadlow. I don't know enough to tell you what the old one was, but a single decker that probably belongs in the 1950s, and whose blind was showing "Private Hire". People sometimes hire such buses for weddings and so I didn't think too much of it when I saw it, but that rally would fit.

uno did have some fairly unusual vehicles in their early days as University Bus, but I don't think there's anything especially exciting in the current fleet. As Mwanesh suggests, university business of some kind is perhaps the most likely explanation for its presence in Tunbridge Wells.

Canterbury Christ Church University does have a site in Tunbridge Wells, but I'd be rather surprised if uno was thinking about a satellite operation in Kent to go with the ones at Cranfield and Northampton!

Likely to be now preserved former Brighton & Hove Trident most recently with Uno Y847GCD which attended Detling rally yesterday.
